Five questions to ask before you hire a financial advisor
How they're paid, whether they're a fiduciary and what you'll actually get: the questions that separate advice from a sales pitch.
Choosing an advisor is a big decision, and the most useful questions are simple.
How are you paid? Commissions, a percentage of assets and flat fees all create different incentives.
Are you a fiduciary at all times? The answer should be an unqualified yes.
What will I actually get? A plan, investment management, tax coordination, or all three?
Who will I work with? A named person, or a call center?
How often will we meet? Planning is a relationship, not a transaction.
This is general education from a fictional firm, not advice for your situation.
